The Commission

Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) is an Election Management body established by Section 197 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) whose constitutional mandate among other things is to organise, undertake and supervise all elections to Local Government Councils within Abia State. The Commission is poised to conduct free, fair and credible local government election. The Commission was inaugurated in May 2001 by the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on majority affirmation of the members of the State House of Assembly.

ABSIEC Board
  1. To Organise, Undertake and Supervise all elections to Local Government Councils within the State.
  2. To render such advice as it may consider necessary to the Independent National Electoral Commission on the Compilations of register of voters in so far as the register is applicable to Local Government Elections in the State.
  3. Set up of general and uniform guidelines for the creation of Electoral Wards in Abia State and see to it that all applicants desirous of new Wards adhere strictly to the provisions of the guidelines.
